- Prepare packaging equipment and materials for packaging
- Identify from documentation the type, quantity and quality of product to be packed
- Identify the range of packaging materials and ancillaries and their specific functions
- Ensure packaging materials are available in accordance with documentation
- Select and prepare packaging materials according to compatibility with content, to procedures
- Check packaging materials for correct labels/safety information
- Select appropriate measuring equipment
- Select and fit appropriate dispensing equipment
- Check all parts of line for damage, contamination or blockage
- Set up line for required quantity of product and labels to procedures
- Operate packaging equipment in accordance with procedures
- Recognise and take action on abnormal situations in accordance with procedures
- Monitor packaging equipment frequently and critically throughout shift using measured/indicated data and senses
- Identify impacts of any changes upstream and downstream
- Recognise situations which may require action
- Resolve routine problems
- Take actions on other abnormal situations to make safe and have the situation resolved
- Isolate and de-isolate equipment
- Complete any required pre-start checks
- Start up/shut down packaging equipment according to the plant type and duty in liaison with other personnel
- Isolate packaging equipment
- Make safe for required work
- Check packaging equipment is ready to be returned to service
- De-isolate and prepare packaging equipment for return to service
